Profile: Luciane Castilho

Luciane Nogueira Castilho has been teaching all levels of Portuguese language at Rutgers University since 2005. Prior to Rutgers, she taught Portuguese and English as Second Language at various academic institutions in Brazil and was the language program coordinator of New York Language Center in New York City.

She studied at the Universidade Ibero-Americana de São Paulo in Brazil and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Portuguese and English, and a Master of Education Degree in Portuguese and English as a Second Language.

Castilho is the director of the Portuguese Language Center Camões at Rutgers University and the cultural liaison to the Consulate-General of Portugal in Newark and the Brazilian Endowment for the Arts in New York.

Her main areas of interest are Second Language Acquisition, Language and Technology, Portuguese-Speaking World Arts and Culture, Translation and Interpretation.

She is currently working in a project that integrates the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies, the Department of Computer Sciences and the Global Language Institute at Rutgers University for the implementation of wormhole technology in the classroom connecting Newark and New Brunswick campuses, and in a course textbook project entitled "Portuguese Language and Brazilian Culture in the Business World".
