Psychology is among the most popular undergraduate majors at Rutgers University – Newark. With Rutgers’ top psychology faculty, facilities, and vast array of research interests, it’s no wonder that many students continue to gravitate towards one of the largest majors on campus in search of a deeper understanding into the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Psychology is inherently intriguing – how do babies learn? How do the social factors of our environment influence the brain? How can we best understand, empathize with, explain, and effectively treat abnormal behavior? Studying psychology here at Rutgers – Newark provides students with the opportunity to learn from expert faculty in their respective fields of psychology that find true delight in sharing their passion for exploring the range of animal and human behavior in the classroom and laboratory.

In addition to the psychology major and minor, we also offer a minor in cognitive neuroscience, a state-of-the-art fMRI for brain imaging, and a dual major in psychiatric rehabilitation. The bachelor of science degree in psychiatric rehabilitation is offered jointly through our department and Rutgers School of Health Related Professions (SHRP) in Scotch Plains, NJ. This unique program offers training in both psychiatric rehabilitation and psychology, providing educational and clinical preparation for professional roles in psychiatric rehabilitation and community mental health settings.
