Nela Navarro is an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Spanish and

Portuguese at Rutgers University, Newark and the Associate Director

and Director of Education at the Center for the Study of Genocide,

Conflict, Resolution and Human Rights, Rutgers. She received her

graduate education at the University of the Andes, Colombia, and at

Columbia University.  Her areas of research include Applied

Linguistics, Language and Technology, Language and Culture, First and Second Language Acquisition, Methods Training and International

Education. She has been a lecturer at Columbia University and

a visiting lecturer at Shanghai International Studies University. Her

interests in the role of language, cross-cultural learning, gender and

technology in promoting peace, human rights, social reform

and equity have led her to develop projects with educational

institutions, ministries of education and NGOS around the world. She

has developed and implemented curricular initiatives, toolkits and

professional development workshops.  She has also co-edited books on

language training, teaching and culture and she is one of the series

editors of the Genocide, Political Violence and Human Rights series at

Rutgers University Press.
