Elisabeth Eittreim is a Scholar Teacher at Rutgers University’s Newark campus where she is teaching U.S. Women’s History and Human Rights History.  She received her PhD in History from Rutgers University in October 2015.  Her dissertation, “The Teachers’ Dilemma: Education and Empire, 1879-1918,” examines the experiences of U.S. teachers who worked with American Indians at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania and in the Philippines on behalf of the U.S. government’s Civil Service program.  Elisabeth has a Masters in Human Rights from Columbia University (2007), a Masters in Teaching from Quinnipiac University (2003), and received her BA from the University of Virginia (2000).  Prior professional experience includes work in human rights education and teaching secondary school.
